Spotting DNC contacts when choosing contacts for a campaign
When you are adding contacts to a campaign in the Choose Contacts step, any contact who is already on your Do Not Contact list will be marked with a red DNC badge. Hovering over the badge shows a tooltip that reads "Do Not Contact."
This lets you see at a glance which contacts are blocked before you launch the campaign — so you can decide whether to keep them selected (they will simply be skipped) or deselect them to keep your contact list clean.
What happens to DNC contacts in an active campaign?
The campaign will not email anyone on the Do Not Contact list, so the contact will not receive any emails from that campaign.
This applies even if the contact is added to the DNC after the campaign launches. This means that if a contact becomes a customer or has a status change after a campaign starts — but before it concludes — they will stop receiving emails as soon as they are added to the DNC.
This applies to both individual contacts (specific email addresses) and entire domains added to the DNC.
The contact still appears on the campaign
Even though a DNC contact will not be emailed, they remain associated with the campaign. This means:
Statistics and performance dashboards will include this contact in the total contacts count
The contact will show as "in an active campaign" on lists of contacts
You cannot delete the contact or merge them (in some circumstances) because they are on an active campaign
How to remove a DNC contact from an active campaign
Pause the campaign
Open the campaign
Navigate to the Contacts step
Find and deselect the contact (look for the red DNC badge to identify them quickly)
Save and resume the campaign
